Tencent opens cloud gaming platform START for public testing

Right off the heels of Google’s announcement of cloud gaming platform Stadia, Tencent has opened its own cloud gaming platform “START” for public testing by users in Shanghai and Guangdong, Tech Web reports.

A new website invites users to sign up for an appointment, and people in other regions in China can also register to be notified when testing will be opened near them in the future.

Tencent’s recruitment portal also features some newly published cloud gaming-related jobs. Postings include those for MAC/iOS, Windows, and Android development engineers, and a Senior Operations Manager position for Tencent Start Cloud Games in Japan.

John Riccitiello, the CEO of San Fransisco-headquartered video game development company Unity Technologies, announced at the ongoing Games Developer Conference that his company would partner with Tencent to provide relevant cloud services in China.

Last month, Tencent confirmed it was teaming up with Intel to launch a cloud gaming service called Tencent Instant Play.
