NBA legends, scooter engineers and media maestros – it’s Collision from Home

This article is part of KrASIA’s partnership with Collision from Home. Written by Niamh O’Connor.

There are now 450 speakers lined up for this year’s Collision from Home, and the list is growing by the day. From June 23-25, they’ll be streaming directly to your home to share the ins and outs of almost every industry you can think of.

You’ll expect to see tech heavyweights, such as Uber CTO Thuan Pham, Frida Polli of pymetrics, and Brad Smith of Microsoft – and you will. Collision from Home is set to gather the leaders of the tech industry to talk about how we got here, and how we’ll come through on the other side.

You probably won’t be surprised to see the founders and CEOs who are shaking up their respective industries – such as Nicola Kilner, CEO of The Abnormal Beauty Company, Kristine Belson of Sony Pictures Animation, or Lauren Williams, editor-in-chief of Vox – but there may be a few speakers you didn’t see coming.

NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal will be joining us at Collision from Home this June. No, we won’t be playing a highlights reel of his incredible sporting career – Shaq will be switching courtside attire for business casual to discuss his investment in Steady. With a community of over 1.5 million, the Steady app has gathered essential services like job searching, financial planning, and tax advice together in one place, ultimately helping people to increase their income.

As we enter our second month of an indefinite global quarantine, Steady’s services will become more important than ever. The unemployment rate in the US is expected to spike at 32%, leaving millions out of work across the country. Shaquille will be joined by the company’s CEO, Adam Roseman, to discuss the evolving nature of work, the employees that will suffer most in the current crisis, and the programs that may help to ease the burden.

If you’ve been to any capital city over the last couple of years, you’ll have spotted Lime scooters. For those of us who shudder at the thought of city-centre traffic and pollution, they’ve been a literal breath of fresh air. Lime CTO Li Fan sees tech as a crucial cog in the development of personal mobility worldwide. Lime aims to deliver “smart, clean, affordable” transportation to all, and Li’s engineering expertise is taking the company to the next level.

With roles including senior vice president at Pinterest and senior director of engineering at Google on her resume, she’s been called “one of the top engineering minds in the industry” by Lime co-founder and CEO Toby Sun. Don’t miss her at Collision from Home.

The media industry is changing rapidly, so keeping a 171-year-old journalistic institution relevant is no small task. Trust in the media is plummeting, misinformation is spreading and the public is crying out for a reliable news source. Faced with these challenges, and more, Sally Buzbee is upholding the Associated Press’s mission of delivering critical facts to the US public and stamping out fake news. The company is currently working with news organizations around the world to fact check information shared on Facebook.

The global pandemic has thrown a spotlight on the media. At Collision from Home this June, Sally will explore how the industry is adapting.

We’re adding more speakers each week. Stay tuned for more of the biggest names across every industry. Check out the full list here.
