Kuala Lumpur-based GoGet, an on-demand freelancer platform, announced on Tuesday that it has raised USD 2 million in a Series A round led by Monk’s Hill Ventures. The startup plans to use the money to scale its services in Malaysia by expanding its product and technology teams, along with sales and digital marketing staff to grow user acquisition.
“The traditional labor market is inefficient during these challenging times. Businesses especially SMEs need to find innovative ways to cut costs while being profitable,” said CEO and co-founder Francesca Chia in a statement.
Founded in 2014, GoGet serves as an online marketplace, connecting people who need help to run errands with part-timers who have the time to do them. Jobs available on the app range from delivery services, sales and marketing, to operations and admin support. Part-time workers also gain access to a range of financial services, including income trackers, automated savings, insurance, and instalment plans to purchase equipment.
The platform claims to have over 20,000 freelance workers and more than 5,000 businesses of all size—from small and medium enterprises (SMEs), to multinational corporations (MNCs). Its clients include Lazada, IKEA, and Foodpanda, for services such as delivery, packing, and event support.
Prior to this funding, GoGet bagged an undisclosed amount of capital from 500 Startups according to Crunchbase. It also received USD 24,300 in grant money after winning the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) B40 Challenge during MyFinTechWeek 2019.
