LinkedIn data shows Alibaba, Baidu, ByteDance are China’s top 3 companies to work for in 2019

China’s e-commerce giant Alibaba is the No. 1 dream workplace for Chinese talent, LinkedIn revealed in its yearly data-driven survey Wednesday.

Alibaba, which is now headquartered in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province with more than 90,000 employees, will start building its second headquarters in Beijing in November this year and expects it to be put in use by 2024.

Search engine Baidu ranks second and ByteDance ranks third.

Baidu, which is headquartered in Beijing with more than 40,000 employees, plans to promote more millennials into management roles, LinkedIn’s report said.

Beijing-headquartered ByteDance confirmed with LinkedIn that the company has started a spring recruitment move, opening 2,000 positions for upcoming graduates who are still on campus as well as interns.

Chen Yi, editing manager at LinkedIn said that the fast update cycle of ByteDance’s products means its technical employees get to participate in the full circle of development including feature launch, feedback, and improvement. This, he argues, allows employees to build skills and grow personally fast, which can all translate into professional satisfaction.

ByteDane is sometimes called an app factory for releasing various apps including newsfeed app Jinri Toutiao and short video app TikTok.

Electric vehicle maker NIO ranks fifth among popular Chinese workplaces, ahead of its role Model Tesla, which ranks sixth.

Top ride-hailer Didi Chuxing ranks seventh, while telecom giant Huawei ranks ninth and local services app Meituan-Dianping ranks 10th.

LinkedIn compiles the top 25 companies list by looking at four pillars: interest in the company, engagement with employees, job demand and employee retention.

Social giant Tencent ranks 19th, while smartphone vendor Xiaomi ranks 22th.
