Lazada Malaysia makes former Taobao executive Leo Chow its new CEO

Lazada Malaysia, part of Alibaba’s Southeast Asian e-commerce platform Lazada, announced the appointment of Leo Chow to succeed Christophe Lejeune as CEO, as reported by Digital News Asia.

Chow, who already held the role of regional executive vice president of Lazada Malaysia, will now manage Lazada’s growth and strategic developments in Malaysia. According to media reports, Lejeune will remain at Lazada, however, it’s not clear in what role.

Chow brings with him a wealth of experience from his time at Taobao, having taken on a variety of roles like category management and running cross-border social commerce business models. At Lazada Malaysia, his previous roles involve managing traffic policies on marketing platforms and implementing various assortments and category strategies regionally.

Lazada has been seeing a few major personnel changes of late.

Last year the firm experienced a shakeup as regional CEO Max Bittner was replaced by Alibaba’s Lucy Peng. Just nine months later, Lazada’s executive president Pierre Poignant replaced Peng as Lazada’s CEO. Peng was said to remain as executive chairwoman of the company.

We have reached out to Lazada for comments.
