Whether in Singapore or Phnom Penh, humans tend to face similar problems throughout their lives. One question everyone has to solve is accommodation–a place you call home (and can afford to rent or buy).
Almost as important as having a roof to sleep under and food on your table is the need for entertainment and human connection. Every once in a while, you want people to applaud you for an achievement.
And a lot of this human problem-solving is happening online. We gain recognition from our peers when we tell them about our experience at a unique hotel on social media. When we move to a new city, we’re likely going to look online for places to rent, whether that’s a tiny townhouse or a city loft.
This is where modern proptech and holiday startups make things easier for you. And they are starting to come up in places like Cambodia, less known for its established startup scene.
In this week’s “Early Stage,” KrASIA takes a look at three Cambodian startups that pitched before investors at the recent SmartScale Demo Day held at Raintree Cambodia in Phnom Penh.
Impact Explorer is a community-based tourism startup that believes its platform can be an effective tool for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through locally run community businesses to reduce poverty in poor rural communities. They work to link interested travelers with local, freelance guides, offering visitors a Cambodian experience with homestays, visits to historic sites, and personalized itineraries throughout Cambodia.
Launched in 2017, WayHome is a community marketplace for property owners to list their rental units and connect with renters seeking accommodation in Cambodia. The company wants to create a simple way to offer renters and landlords a solution to quickly find each other and solcve rental transactions online.
Using a mobile app, RENT KH enables landlords and property agents to upload property details quickly, as well as allowing potential renters the ability to view what is on the market with just a glance. Payment is also convenient, with the app supporting payment options like Visa and local payment options ACLEDA ToanChet, Wing Payment, ABA Transfer, PayGo Wallet, and Pi Pay.
“Early Stage” is a series where the writers of KrASIA highlight startups that caught our eye for the week, whether they achieved an important milestone, rolled out a truly innovative product, or became embroiled in controversy.
