KEY STAT | TikTok discloses US and global user numbers for the first time

In documents ByteDance filed with the US federal court suing US government over the TikTok ban, the Chinese tech giant disclosed monthly active users (MAUs) breakdown of TikTok for the US and global market for the first time, Chinese media outlet Sina Tech reported.

The embattled short video app has exceeded 100 million in the US on a quarterly basis, said Washington Post citing lawsuit files.

By June 2020, a few months after the COVID-19 pandemic prompted a quarantine, TikTok’s total number of monthly active users in the States had soared to more than 91 million from October 2019’s 39 million.

TikTok and its Chinese version Douyin topped the global mobile app non-game download charts again in July with more than 65.2 million worldwide downloads, said Sensor Tower. ByteDance said that the short video duo has nearly 700 million MAU globally in July.
