Newly-listed short video service Kuaishou’s (HKEX: 1024) daily active users (DAUs) spiked to nearly 500 million during the Chinese New Year holiday earlier this month, local media LatePost reported, representing a new record for the Douyin rival.
280 million users came from its flagship app, while its mini program, Kuaishou Light, and other channels contributed some 200 million visitors, said the report.
ByteDance’s Douyin, meanwhile, stagnated at the same level as before the holiday with about 600 million DAUs. Douyin replaced e-commerce firm Pinduoduo to become the sole sponsor of this year’s CCTV Spring Festival Gala—the most-watched TV show of the country—at the last minute as the latter got caught in a controversy, KrASIA reported.
LatePost further said that the hasty change of plans gave the TikTok sister less time to prepare a proper CNY campaign, while Kuaishou’s holiday package offered various possibilities to engage during the seven-day festivities.
