After a recent spike in new cases, the Beijing government is now pushing for a quick rollout of the vaccines in the capital. China’s biggest ride-hailing operator Didi Chuxing announced on Sunday that more than 100,000 of their drivers in the city have already received their first shots.
From this week, drivers who have completed the procedure will have a “vaccinated” label next to their profile picture on the app. Those who still haven’t received the vaccines, regardless of reason, will need to provide a valid negative COVID-19 test result in order to be able to take orders, according to Didi’s statement.
Vaccinations for other employees, such as designated drivers, driver managers, as well as workers in operations and maintenance with Didi’s bike-sharing service Qingju, have been carried out in an orderly manner too, said the company.
Last week, the app notified customers in Beijing of possible longer queuing time as drivers took turns to get their injections. In a written statement last Tuesday, Didi told KrASIA that the company planned to vaccinate drivers on the platform within one week.
