ByteDance, the owner of TikTok and Douyin, is hiring thousands of new talents for its education product Dali over the next four months, the company said in one of its WeChat accounts last Friday. The new positions cover teaching, product design, visual design, and community management, among others.
The same post also said that the firm will further boost its online education team with some 3,000 more openings at university job fairs across 11 major cities this coming spring.
The independent education brand Dali, which can roughly be translated as “big force,” was launched last October with around 10,000 employees, KrASIA reported.
Known for the lightning speed it roles out new apps, ByteDance is determined to get a slice of China’s booming online education market. Its previous attempt, the one-on-one English teaching platform Gogokid, laid off 70% of its staff in April 2019.
In 2019, the company acquired Qingbei, an online service targeting K-12 learners, and Open Language, a platform featuring pre-recorded videos for adults to learn intercultural skills and speak better English at work.
The three products, plus a hardware production line that includes an AI-powered desk lamp for students, are expected to become the core businesses of Dali, said a 36Kr analysis.
