Grab unveils first cloud kitchen in Singapore

Grab has opened its first cloud kitchen in Singapore as part of its expansion of GrabKitchen across five Southeast Asian countries.

The cloud kitchen will be located in Hillview, Singapore, offering 10 F&B brands, including three new virtual restaurants. Grab currently has 50 cloud kitchens across the region and more will be rolled out this year.

Lim Kell Jay, regional head of GrabFood, said merchants will be provided with tools for their end-to-end business needs and this would also improve the online-to-offline experience for GrabFood customers. Unlike the typical cloud kitchen, GrabFood customers can dine in the Singapore location.

GrabFood has many competitors across different markets in Southeast Asia, such as GoFood, Foodpanda, Deliveroo, and Now.vn.

In an interview with the South China Morning Post, Lim previously said that food and financial services now make up more than 50% of Grab’s gross merchandise volume despite it starting off as a ride-hailing company.

Southeast Asia’s online food delivery market is expected to be worth USD 20 billion by 2025, according to an estimate by Google, Temasek and Bain Company.
