Grab Indonesia launches Delivery Doodles in collaboration with Google

Grab, in collaboration with Google, on Monday launched Delivery Doodles in Indonesia. Using artificial intelligence from Google, Grab Delivery Doodles turn kids’ food doodles into real food orders. The new service aims to keep kids entertained at home during mobility restrictions in many countries due to COVID-19.

The service is built using a machine learning model that can recognize drawings of all-time favorite dishes like martabak, pizza, or ice cream. In order to train the AI tool, Grab collected over 10,000 doodles from family members of Grab and Google employees.

“Grab Delivery Doodles uses a machine learning model that has been customized and built using tensorflow.js to run on a device in near real-time,” said Aurélien Pichon, Google’s APAC managing director, in a statement issued by Grab. “We hope the feature provides a pleasant experience for families who now spend more time at home, while also supporting businesses across the region.”

To use the feature, customers need to open Delivery Doodles in the Grab app and take a picture of the drawing. After clicking “order now”, the app will suggest different restaurant options for the food.

Besides Indonesia, GrabFood Delivery Doodles is also available as a pilot in Malaysia and Vietnam.
