Grab expands grocery service across Southeast Asia, adding Cambodia

Grab, the Singapore-based ride hailing and food delivery provider, announced on Thursday that Cambodia is the latest addition for its GrabMart service. With the country, GrabMart has now a presence in eight Southeast Asian markets, serving 50 cities in the region.

Started as an on-demand daily essentials service, GrabMart offers an option for consumers to buy a wide range of consumer goods including groceries, home essentials, health and beauty items, as well as gifts. It has partnered with over 3,000 stores, including convenience stores, supermarkets, and even some traditional markets in the region, to support consumers and merchants during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“COVID-19 has accelerated the adoption of on-demand delivery services across Southeast Asia,” said Demi Yu, regional head of GrabFood and GrabMart, in a statement. “We were able to tap on existing technologies, our extensive delivery network, and operational footprint to quickly scale GrabMart across the region.”

The company expects demand for delivery services to remain elevated.  For ride-hailing app companies, on-demand daily essential delivery services have become a solution for those who struggled to run and maintain the ride-hailing service during COVID-19.
