Southeast Asian self-labelled ‘super app’ Grab announced on Tuesday that it launched a new feature called Clean & Fix. It’s offering this in collaboration with Indonesian services marketplace Sejasa.
Grab’s main rival in Indonesia, Gojek, has been offering these types of services for years, while Grab has traditionally been more focused on transportation-related services. Evidently, it wants to change that.
Ongki Kurniawan, the executive director of Grab Indonesia says the number of orders for cleaning and repair services on Sejasa increased by 50 to 70% after Sejasa since it began integrating with Grab.
Sejasa was part of Grab’s Velocity accelerator and it has used the Grab app to advertize its services since last year, before now formalizing the relationship.
“From that number, [we can deduce] there is high demand. We needed some time for the preparation, and finally we just launched [this] new feature for Grab,” Kurniawan told journalists at a press conference.
Clean & Fix only available in the Greater Jakarta, and will expand to two other major cities, Bandung and Surabaya, in October. The three services offered already are household device repairs, such as of air conditioners, refrigerator, and washing machines. Home renovation and house cleaning services aren’t actually available yet, but will follow soon, says Grab.
An advantage of ordering from Grab as opposed to from Sejasa directly is that users can pay with the cashless payment method that’s already integrated with Grab, namely the Ovo wallet.
The country manager of Sejasa Anthony Wijaya added that the marketplace will expands its services to include carpentry, plumbing, and house painting among others in the near time.
Sejasa competes with other local startups such as Seekmi. Gojek also offers similar services via its standalone app GoLife.
