ByteDance-owned music streaming platform Resso has been listed by Google as one of the best apps in the Google Play Store in the fun category, helping to “unwind and get creative.” ByteDance’s video editor CapCut, movie streaming platform HBO Go, and web comic platform Kakao Page were also included.
Resso’s Indonesia country manager Tricia Dizon attributes the success to the platform’s social streaming features, according to a statement. “This is a very challenging year for many people, and many of us find comfort in music,” she said. Resso also won Google’s Best of 2020 User’s Choice in Brazil.
Available in Indonesia since March, Resso combines music streaming with social features. The platform displays lyrics in real-time and allows users to share their favorite parts of a song on social media. They can also leave comments under individual songs to spark or join discussions with community members. Resso also generates music-accompanied GIFs and video clips.
“Indonesia offers a tremendous opportunity with over 60 million “Gen Z” and 63.5 million millennials, as well as a massively growing internet penetration,” Dizon told KrASIA in an interview earlier this year. She further said that the app saw an increase in usage since the beginning of pandemic.
In Indonesia, Resso is competing with Spotify, YouTube Music, and Joox. It offers a freemium service, with a monthly ad-free subscription for IDR 49,000 or USD 3.27.
