Gojek appoints Severan Rault as a new Group CTO

The Indonesian ride-hailing and food delivery app Gojek on Tuesday announced that Severan Rault will join the company as Chief Technology Officer (CTO), replacing Ajey Gore who resigned in June.

Rault will oversee all of the technology related to Gojek’s super app, which offers a wide range of services including transportation, payments, food delivery, and logistics, among others. He will also manage the engineering teams across Southeast Asia and India, the company said in a release.

“Gojek is entering a critical phase as it moves from startup to maturation and it’s special to be a part of that,” Rault said in a statement. “Building systems and processes for a business of Gojek’s scale and complexity are a challenging one rarely enjoys in their career and I’m grateful for the opportunity.”

The company refers to Rault’s more than 20 years of experience in the tech industry. He was previously a director of software development at Amazon, where he co-led the team that founded Amazon Prime Air, the drone delivery service.

Prior to Amazon, Severan held several leadership roles at Microsoft, including that of principal architect for the search engine Bing. He founded wireless solutions firm Kikker Interactive, which was acquired by Microsoft in 2008, and virtual reality company Betawave, where he worked before joining Gojek earlier this year as head of engineering. Severan will report to co-CEO Kevin Aluwi.
