Go-Viet CEO Christy Trang Le is leaving the company after only five months on the job, signaling Gojek’s continued struggle to maintain a foothold in Vietnam.
This is the second leadership change for Go-Viet, Gojek’s subsidiary in Vietnam, following the departure of two top directors who reportedly demanded a large sum of money for compensation.
Go-Viet released the following statement regarding Le’s departure: “When we start out on a journey with new leadership, it is always with the best of intentions. However, after five months at the company, Christy has decided to take a different path. We always work hard to find a mutually agreeable way forward, but were unable to do so in this instance.”
The company has not released any information about Le’s replacement.
Christy Trang Le took the helm at Go-Viet in April, after a short stint as CEO for Facebook Vietnam. She’s a familiar face in the Vietnamese tech and entrepreneurship community. Le used to work alongside her husband, Sonny Vu, at consumer wearables startup Misfit Wearables, which her husband co-founded and which was later acquired by Fossil Group for USD 260 million.
In an interview with KrASIA earlier this month, Le expressed her ambition to bring Gojek’s platform to all Vietnamese consumers.
Despite recently celebrating its one-year anniversary in Vietnam and crossing mark of providing 100 million rides, Go-Viet continues to struggle with internal leadership issues amid fierce competition from Grab and other new ride-hailing players.
So far, Gojek has not been able to roll out its Go-Pay and Go-Car services in Vietnam.
