Disney’s subscription-based on-demand streaming service, Disney+ Hotstar, will be available in Indonesia starting from September 5.
The service will feature more than 500 movies and 7000 episodes, including content from Disney, Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, and National Geographic. It will also offer more than 300 Indonesian titles, such as Sabar Ini Ujian, Malik dan Elsa, and Rentang Kisah.
Although pricing details have not been released, Disney+ Hotstar is collaborating with Telkomsel, a local telco, to provide subscription packages for viewers. It will be available on desktop, smartphone, and television via Android TV and Fire TV Stick.
Disney+ has been hiring for multiple positions in Indonesia since June. Disney+ Hotstar is set to compete with many other existing platforms in the market, like Netflix, iflix, Viu, and GoPlay, Gojek’s video streaming service.
Disney+, Disney’s dedicated streaming service, first launched in November 2019 in the United States. When it expanded to India in April 2020, the platform collaborated with local streaming service Hotstar, rebranding as Disney+ Hotstar. Disney+ has accumulated more than 60.5 million paid subscribers worldwide as of August 2020.
