Didi Chuxing, China’s largest ride-hailing platform, said that its English language interface in China, called Didi English, has served more than 2 million users across 430 cities since its launch in 2017, according to a company’s press release.
Sharing almost the same functionalities as the main Chinese Didi app, expat riders in China can choose from four transportation options, including Express, Taxi, Premier and Luxe, said Didi.
More than half of Didi English users are concentrated in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta. The top five cities with the most users are Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Chengdu.
It is estimated that over 1 million expats work and live in China, a country that will become the world’s No.1 tourist destination by 2030 with 127 million visitors each year, said Didi citing prediction of Euromonitor International.
Didi added that it will continue to diversify its products to better serve the diverse needs of the fast-growing international communities in China. Didi’s English version is unique in China, as other ride-hailing platforms, such as Meituan, do not offer services in foreign languages to its users.
