Chinese spam callers made 50 billion calls last year and nearly 70% Chinese internet users said they have received spam calls, according to a recent report by research firm iiMedia.
More than 85.4% respondents said they received spam calls on a weekly basis in 2018. Most spam calls are trying to peddle financial loans, insurance, and real estate. Nearly half of the respondents said they instantly hang up when they get unsolicited calls.
Spam call bots have also become more popular in 2018 – Chinese state broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV) revealed in March that Chinese companies were making billions of unsolicited sales calls by using illegally obtained data and with the help of AI technology.
