Eighty million passengers who pass through China’s Guangzhou International Airport can now enjoy a 5G-enabled internet connection at Terminal 1, starting late this month.
According to Guangzhou Unicom’s tests, the measured 5G speed at the airport is 1.14Gbps, 50 times the current 4G transmission speed. In addition, the 5G base station for Baiyun airport uses Huawei’s 5G LampSite equipment.
The 5G standard, which is set to eventually replace the current 4G mobile network standard to offer more speed, less latency, and higher efficiency, has not yet been commercially deployed at a global scale. China aims to take on a leadership role in the advancement of this technology.
