CHINA BRIEF| Megvii unveils virtual makeup solution FaceStyle to boost sales for cosmetics retailers

China’s largest facial recognition developer, Megvii, launched an AI-powered virtual makeup solution called FaceStyle to help companies sell cosmetic products more efficiently, according to a livestreamed launch event held on Wednesday.

FaceStyle captures and replicates users’ facial features and demonstrates how different makeups would look on their face, a technology that can be integrated with both online and bricks-and-mortar stores.

Megvii can integrate FaceStyle with existing apps or mini programs, which can be used on mobile devices like tablets, allowing customers to experience various products quickly, said the program’s product manager, Wu Lingling.

Cosmetics retailers who have already turned to FaceStyle include Unifon and Noisy Beauty, each of which has dozens of stores in China, and e-commerce platform Haitunjia, which has 50 million registered members.
