CHINA BRIEF | Chinese Adademy of Sciences-affiliated AI startup Wenge raises USD 29 million in Series C

Beijing-based artificial intelligence startup Wenge Tech has raised RMB 200 million (USD 29 million) in its Series C round led by Shenzhen Capital Group, the company said on its official WeChat account on Thursday.

The company has rolled out a wide variety of products and solutions based on AI technologies including natural language processing for corporate and government clients, since it was founded in 2017 by the Internet Data Research Center of Institute of Automation, an entity of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

The Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, have been using the company’s Wenhai (Newsframe) big data platform. The system aggregates online information scattered in various media outlets in 19 languages and generates analysis reports automatically, according to the company’s website.
