Canada’s Department of Justice confirmed Tuesday that it had received a formal request from the United States for the extradition of Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer of Huawei, China’s telecom giant.
Canadian officials now have until March 1st to review the request, according to a Justice Department spokesperson.
Meng was detained on Dec 1st by Canadian authorities in Vancouver, British Columbia, on the request of the US. She is accused of violating the country’s sanctions on Iran. Huawei, the largest private company in China, is also facing criminal charges in the US.
