ByteDance has passed 1 billion monthly active users across its portfolio of apps, Zhang Nan, the president of short video app Douyin revealed at a recent event.
Currently considered the world’s most valuable startup, ByteDance operates some of China’s most popular apps, including Jinri Toutiao, a news aggregation app with 200 million monthly users; short video app Douyin, which has around 500 million monthly and 250 million daily users in China; and FaceU, an augmented reality selfie app that is China’s third-most popular beauty app. It has also attracted a global audience with its short video app TikTok, which has large user bases in the US, India, and other markets.
The milestone is just the latest in ByteDance’s ascendancy to China’s—and indeed the world’s—top technology platforms, joining the likes of Tencent, Facebook, and Google, as companies with more than 1 billion users.
