Baidu has started to offer cloud computing services in Singapore, the company said in a press release.
Its first clients in the city-state include Baidu subsidiaries such as video streaming site iQiyi and Do Global, a spin-off of Baidu’s global business that focuses on international mobile apps and overseas advertising platforms.
Baidu said it aims to provide cloud services — including computing, storage, networking, security, database, and system management services — to both Chinese companies that are operating in Singapore and local enterprises.
The company was the fourth largest cloud infrastructure service provider in China in the first quarter of this year by sales — following Alibaba, Tencent, and Amazon — Baidu said, citing market research firm Canalys. Alibaba Cloud, Tencent Cloud and Amazon World Services are already providing cloud computing services in Singapore, according to their websites.
With its active business environment and status as a regional economic center, Singapore is a key market for international cloud service providers. In April, Huawei launched its cloud service in the Southeast Asian city-state.
