Alibaba invests USD 150 million in online mathematics homework startup Knowbox

Knowbox, an online education startup, has recently closed its Series D round with a USD 150 million investment from Chinese tech titan Alibaba, 36Kr reports.

The company, which was set up in Beijing in 2014, has previously received investments from big name investors, including YF Capital, Legend Star, TAL Education, and JD founder Richard Liu.

Knowbox specializes in providing online mathematics test banks to students, parents, and teachers. The company teaches the subject through games and contests.

In an interview with 36Kr last April, Knowbox founder Liu Ye said the company wanted to use technology, including artificial intelligence, to change education and hence make it more affordable.

Knowbox has 3.7 million daily active users. Last December, Liu told the audience at the Global Education Summit that the products and services of his company were used by 70% of China’s primary schools to assign and grade homework.

36Kr is KrASIA’s parent company.
