What we’re most looking forward to on Day 2 of Collision from Home

Welcome back to Collision from Home. We had a massive opening day to our first ever fully online tech conference. On the lineup for day two we have an astronaut-in-training, a Super Bowl winner, a DJ, the president of Microsoft, policymakers, actors, prominent journalists, and the commissioner of the Call of Duty league.If you’re still playing around with the apps, we have some tips on how to juggle two screens and make the most out of your time at Collision.

Channel 1 – The art of exploration

Channel 2 – The Super Bowl champion fighting Covid-19

Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, Kansas City Chiefs, and Sheinelle Jones, news anchor on NBC News.

On February 2, 2020, Laurent Duvernay-Tardif helped the Kansas City Chiefs win the Super Bowl. Fast forward to today, and he’s facing a far more difficult challenge: Covid-19. The NFL’s only qualified doctor is currently working at a long-term care centre. He’ll tell us what life is like on the frontlines, and the challenges of restarting sports without a vaccine.

Channel 2 – Answering the Call of Duty

Johanna Faries, commissioner of the Call of Duty league at Activision Blizzard; Jason Abbruzzese, senior tech editor at NBC News.

Meet the first (and only) female commissioner of an esports league: Activision Blizzard’s commissioner of the Call of Duty league, Johanna Faries. Johanna will discuss launching the league, give insight into its pivot to online matches, and explain what it’s like providing competitive esports during a drought of traditional live sports.

Channel 3 – Tech’s role during the crisis

Brad Smith, president of Microsoft, and Steve Adler, editor-in-chief of Reuters.

Microsoft president Brad Smith returns to Collision to talk about the role of tech companies during the Covid-19 crisis. From the Covid-19-diagnosing chatbot developed by Microsoft to the role of big data in government decisions, tech has the opportunity to come to the rescue during the biggest pandemic in a century.

Channel 3 – Is your head A-oki?

Steve Aoki, DJ and producer, and Rich Pierson, co-founder and CEO of Headspace.

One of the biggest challenges of social distancing has been the impact it has had on people’s mental health. World-renowned DJ, producer, and entrepreneur Steve Aoki sits down with Headspace co-founder and CEO Rich Pierson to discuss mindfulness, meditation, creativity, and looking after your mental health.
