CHINA BRIEF | Sequoia China’s Neil Shen tops Forbes’ top 100 venture capitalists worldwide

Forbes released its Midas List of Top 100 venture capitalists for 2020 on Tuesday, ranking Sequoia Capital China’s founding and managing partner Neil Shen as the most prominent figure.

Shen made number one for the third straight year. Sequoia’s most notable recent deal is on ByteDance, which owns short video app Douyin and its international version TikTok.

A total of 22 Chinese investors were included on the 2020 Midas List, the 19th annual one released by Forbes. It ranks investors by portfolio companies that have gone public or been acquired for at least USD 200 million over the past five years, or that have at least doubled their private valuation since initial investment to USD 400 million or more over the same period.

Morningside Ventures’ Richard Liu ranked 6th with the firm’s investments in companies including Xiaomi, making him the only other Chinese investor in the Top 10.
