CHINA BRIEF | Short-video app Kwai is hiring for its expansion in Mexico and Argentina

Douyin’s domestic competitor Kuaishou, known as Kwai overseas, has been speeding up its global push, hiring marketing personnel to support its expansion into Mexico and Argentina, local media outlet 36Kr reported.

According to the job description, the position is responsible for creator development, social media management, and campaign organization.

Kwai is lags behind TikTok, the global version of Douyin which became the world’s most-downloaded app in January, in international expansion. In Feberuary, TikTok was downloaded 72 million times worldwide while Kwai only gained 6 million new installs, according to data from research firm Sensor Tower.

But Kwai has demonstrated its potential in some South American countries. While not breaking the top 100 apps in Argentina just one month ago, it became the top video app in the Google Play stores in both Argentina and Brazil as of March 4.
