Go-Jek and Astra International launch a car rental program called GoFleet

Astra International, Indonesia’s largest automobile distributor, and Go-Jek launched a joint venture called GoFleet yesterday in Jakarta, reported local media outlet Tempo.

GoFleet is a car rental program that allows prospective driver-partners to join the ride-hailing firm without having to own their own vehicles.

The report said that GoFleet will provide at least 1,000 multi-purpose vehicles like the Toyota Avanza and Daihatsu Xenia at a lower rental price to drivers in Go-Jek’s network. In addition to cars, those drivers will also receive regular maintenance, vehicle, and life insurance. They can also receive additional income from advertisements that are placed in the car.

To join GoFleet, prospective drivers must pass a selection process that include administrative steps, data verification, and training.

In its initial stage, GoFleet is only available in the Greater Jakarta area before being expanded to other regions.

The two companies hope that this collaboration can provide the community with greater income-earning opportunities to help improve the Indonesian economy.

Astra International is one of Indonesia’s most diversified conglomerates. In March, the firm has invested IDR 1.4 trillion (USD 100 million) in Go-Jek in its first phase of an on-going Series F fundraising round. The investment brought Astra’s total stake in the company to USD 250 million. Go-Jek’s Series F round has been open since October 2018 and has a target of USD 3 billion.

Earlier this week, Go-Jek confirmed it raised an undisclosed amount of funding from Visa as part of its ongoing series F financing to support its push into the financial sector. The fresh funding came only a week after the firm snagged investment from Thailand’s Siam Commercial Bank to expand its financial services in Thailand through Go-Jek’s Thai affiliate GET.
