Youku is taking its shows global

A drama series that was previously aired exclusively on Youku, one of China’s leading video streaming sites, is hitting small screens in several Asian nations and the United States, according to a press release issued by the company.

The Longest Day in Chang’an is a 60-episode suspense thriller series set in Tang Dynasty China. Its story arcs through themes of friendship, brotherhood, betrayal, and loyalty. The show is now streaming in Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Vietnam, and the United States. It is available on Amazon, Viki, YouTube, and some TV networks.

The series has been made available in English and Vietnamese as it lands in new markets. Youku plans to make other dubbed versions, such as Malay, in the coming months.

The move fits into Youku’s strategy of producing and streaming exclusive, higher-quality content to woo viewers at home as well as abroad. The company has distributed more than 50 original series in the past two years. These include the detective drama Day and Night and the romantic comedy I Hear You, both of which have been acquired by Netflix.
