Go-Jek appoints new Group Chief Data Officer

Southeast Asia’s on-demand platform Go-Jek today announces the appointment of Gautam Kotwal as Group Chief Data Officer.

As the role suggests, Kotwal will be responsible for managing Go-Jek’s overall data strategy and teams across business intelligence, data engineering, data science, and fraud prevention. In addition, he’s also expected to provide oversight for all data-related functions at the company. As a maturing tech company, “data is an essential area to key business decision-making for the platform and its stakeholders”, Go-Jek says in an official statement.

Based in Singapore, Kotwal will report to Go-Jek’s co-founder Kevin Aluwi.

Kotwal has over 20 years of Silicon Valley experience and leadership roles in data analytics, and machine learning. Prior to landing his role at Go-Jek, Kotwal was the Chief Analytics Data Officer at US grocery company Albertsons. He also used to hold data, analytics, and engineering leadership positions at Kohl’s, e retail chain, and Netflix. He was part of the first engineering team to help Netflix launch its streaming services across TV, gaming platforms, and mobile.

Go-Jek claims to have has 3,000 employees in roles related to data and analytics, spanning technology, operational, and administrative roles. As part of its efforts to become the region’s first super-app, Go-Jek has been piling up new features in the past two months, including on-demand video-streaming service Go-Play, e-commerce offering Go-Mall, and hotel booking feature Go-Travel.
