Huawei plans to sell its foldable phone as early as July

He Gang, president of the smartphone department of Huawei’s consumer business group, told reporters on Friday that the company plans to sell Mate X, the company’s first foldable phone between the end of July and early AugustTechweb reports.

Huawei had launched the Mate X at the Mobile World Congress in Spain in February, with plans to put it in the market mid-year.

He said the delay is partly because the Mate X hasn’t yet got the certification from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, a necessary step before selling domestically.

He added that the foldable screen also needs lots of adaptation from apps, revealing that Huawei is teaming up with top app producers to speed up the process.

Huawei is one of a handful of smartphone makers worldwide that have foldable phones among their suite of devices.

Samsung also showcased its Galaxy Fold also at the Mobile World Congress early this year but canceled the launch for the device in China and other countries because it still faced technical issues and some broke in the hands of reporters tyring them out.

The Korean tech giant, which recalled all testing models later, has yet set a date for Galaxy Fold to be put in the market.
