Grab introduces new and upcoming services in Singapore

Grab formally announced the addition of four new services, namely on-demand video streaming, hotel booking, tickets booking, and trip planner on its platform at an event in Singapore on Tuesday

When it comes to watching videos, Grab users in Singapore will be able to access the content of on-demand video service Hooq through the Grab app from May 2019. The monthly subscription fee will be waived for the first two months and interested Grab users can subscribe for Hooq’s paid content at a discounted rate of SGD 7.98 (USD 5.88) per month.

Grab Indonesia already launched this service in partnership with Hooq in February.

Integrations with hotel booking sites are, next. Agoda is already available through the Grab app in Singapore to some users, while access to Booking.com is still in the pipeline. Grab said the services should become available to all users in Singapore as early as next month.

Hotel booking via Agoda and Booking.com are also already available to users of Grab Indonesia.

Another upcoming feature is ticket booking for events such as concerts and movie screenings, which will be powered within the Grab app through event ticketing platform BookMyShow, one of the startups that went through Grab Ventures’ first accelerator program.

Grab also presented its Trip Planner service, which is also already available in Jakarta. It lets Grab users plan trips that require multiple transits and makes route recommendations that include public transport as well as Grab transportation options.

Grab’s rollout of these new services in Singapore marks another milestone in the neck-to-neck race between Grab and Go-Jek, both aiming to become “super apps” that offer their users a multitude of options from within once central app. In Indonesia, Go-Jek just launched a commerce feature that lets users browse and shop goods in collaboration with JD.id. It already has event tickets, and hotel and other travel booking options are likely to follow suit.
