China’s Morningside Venture Capital raises US$593 million

According to US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) records, China’s Morningside Venture Capital has raised US$593 million for its Evolution funds.

According to Dealstreet Asia, Morningside Venture Capital has raised US$395.5 million out of a targeted US$600 million for its Evolution Fund I and US$197.8 million out of a targeted US$300 million for its Evolution Special Opportunity Fund I.

Morningside Venture Capital was founded in 1992 and is one of China’s earliest early-stage venture investors. The company has around US$1.7 billion in its four USD and one RMB funds.

Takeaways:

— Morningside Venture Capital has an impressive track record of spotting and investing in unicorns, notably, they had previously invested in Xiaomi, Xunlei, Bigo, and UCWeb.

— More recently, the firm has invested in Pony.AI, Xiaopeng Motors, and PingCap. The latter just completed a US$50 million Series C round last month.
