WM Motor teams up with Italy’s Enel X to sell EVs overseas

WM Motor has formed a strategic cooperation with Italian power company Enel X to export smart electric vehicles (EV), including post-sale service, recharging, and application of V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) technologies, the Shanghai-based EV maker revealed on its official Weibo account on Tuesday. Enel X offers a wide range of energy-related services, such as distributed energy generation and EV recharging in Europe, North America and Asia. In a first step, the companies will start delivering vehicles to Southeast Asia, according to a press release of the company on Wednesday.

Founded in 2015 in Shanghai, WM Motor launched its first model EX5 at the end of 2018, and the second model EX6 Plus in the fourth quarter of last year. The EV manufacturer, which counts Baidu and automaker SAIC among its investors, said on December 2 that it sold 3,018 vehicles in November alone, up 174.6% year-on-year, and 40,000 EX 5 models up to then. Earlier in September, it closed a RMB 10 billion (USD 1.5 billion) Series D round.

WM Motor’s collaboration with Enel X comes as Chinese EV makers are eyeing the European market. Xpeng started to deliver its first 100 G3 models to customers in Norway this week, KrASIA reported on Tuesday. BYD launched its Tang electric vehicle in Norway in July, planning to deliver as early as January 2021, while Nio has planned to enter the continent in the second half of 2021.
